Stress is part of our everyday life. We can’t really eliminate them down to zero but there are ways to reduce stress in your life. From reconnecting with nature to having enough sleep, or taking vitamin B to reduce anxiety and stress.

Stress is how we respond to the different stressors we encounter every day such as work, the environment, people, and unexpected events. We cannot really get rid of it as much as we want to. But that doesn’t mean we continue to suffer because of it.

Let’s start with these ways to reduce stress in your life.

Everybody has their own way of battling or dealing with stress. Some people change their situation or embrace work-life balance while others develop new hobbies. Other than those, here are ways to reduce stress in your life.

1. Goal setting and concrete planning

Goal-setting involves defining what you want to achieve and how to achieve it. It also requires concrete planning wherein you come up with specific ways to realize the goal you have set.

In reducing stress in your life, goal-setting is a must. You get to have a clear and general picture of what you will do. You won’t be drifting aimlessly and eventually, wasting your time.

Goal-setting has the ability to boost your drive to actually act and grow professionally. You also get to value and appreciate the effort and time you invest in goal-setting. This would then help you ensure your success and happiness in the process.

RECOMMENDED: Get planners with Day Designer to set your goals and devise a plan. Or, get this goal-slayer planner from Nadalie. Whatever your goals are to reduce stress, big or small you will need these tools.

2. Controlling procrastination

It is common for people to procrastinate. We’re humans after all and we have our own tendencies; one of which is procrastinating.

One way to minimize this is to remind yourself of the negative consequences of putting things off for the next day. If you think of it, it’s not really true that there is always the next time. That isn’t true because that “next time” has its own tasks to be accomplished.

Thus, do your best to follow through with your plans for the day. If you cannot accomplish everything, at least do 80% of it. It pays to always have a plan and perhaps end up doing all of them.

3. Practicing mindfulness

In the high-pressure society we live in, stress could be really heightened and intensified. People get anxious and somehow paralyzed because of the negative thoughts they have. This is when mindfulness steps in to help you reduce stress in your life.

Mindfulness can help you live with anxiety and stress. It’s not all about stopping emotions or negative thoughts from arising. But it’s all about recognizing them without judgment. It’s about accepting them as they are.

Mindfulness requires daily practice for it to be internalized and perhaps mastered. If your mind is wandering off to the future or the past, do your best to pull yourself out of that. Focus on your breathing. Exhale and inhale.

4. Spending time with nature

You might have heard of Nature Deficit Disorder. This is likely to victimize children who spend less time outdoors; thus, making them feel alienated and susceptible to negative moods and a much shorter attention span.

Adults are prone to this also. With the popularity of the work-from-home scheme, people are cooped up in their rooms. They seem to have grown accustomed to staying indoors. This could be debilitating and stressful at times.

Thus, spending time with nature is necessary. You can set aside 15 to 30 minutes of your time each day and go for a walk. That way, you’ll get to freshen up a bit and enjoy some scenery outside.

5. Managing your routine regularly

Dealing with stress becomes easier when you manage your routine regularly.

Managing your routine is all about scheduling your priorities. It’s all about doing the most important task on your list. Most people have the habit of listing a lot of tasks on their To-Do List. That could be somewhat overwhelming and over the top.

It is highly recommended that you have at least three major tasks to do and at most five tasks set each day. Since our brain is able to take only so much, you cannot just bombard it with a lot of stuff.

While working on those three main tasks, try taking breaks in between. This way, your brain will be able to slow down and relax a little.

6. Practicing Flexibility

Stress can be caused by sudden changes in events. You might have grown accustomed to your routine and when something suddenly comes up, you freak out.

Practicing flexibility then is a must. Always consider the possibility that you might encounter new things, new people, or new projects the following day. By considering this in advance, you won’t be surprised and caught off guard.

Flexibility is a skill. It gets better in time as you practice this. Embrace changes in your life and be like water – formless and constantly adapting to certain situations.

7. Have some along time once a week

Minimizing stress may be achieved by having alone time. This is one of the best ways to reduce stress in your life.

Humans are social animals and they constantly deal with various types of people. If this is the kind of environment you have, you might end up feeling spent or exhausted. Then, you could use some alone time.

Spending time with yourself means a lot to your mental and physical health. This helps you to recharge and get yourself together. It gives you the opportunity to explore your interests and creativity.

Alone time allows you to feel more comfortable with your own company. There is no pressure and judgment from the outside world. It’s you and your thoughts only.

8. Embracing work-life balance

In the wake of the pandemic, people are now starting to embrace work-life balance. Some of them quit their day job and build their own small businesses – something they are passionate about.

Work-life balance seems impossible without the help of employers. This then means that both employees and employers must work together. Employers should step up and improve the working environment of their employees. By doing so, they cut their losses because employees would be very happy to perform and do their work very well.

Pursuing a work-life balance does not require you to quit your bread and butter. It is merely asking you to do what you hate to do what you love. It’s about choosing what matters most to you while earning for yourself or your family.

Sharing is Caring
