What does “investing in yourself” mean
It is when you spend your money, time, and effort on something that adds value to your life. When you invest in something, you reap benefits, big results, and valuable returns. Examples are the best ways to explain a concept so I will give a few:
- You buy a quality tool such as a laptop to make your work faster and more efficient.
- You learn a new language to make friends, to learn and embrace new cultures
- Invest in an online course to create your own product and sell them. You gain skills and profit
Investing starts within ourselves. No one can make you better, No one can improve your life for you, no one can make you richer, no one can make you smarter or more creative. You create your own value therefore you take the first step, it starts within YOU.
You can only have two things in life, reasons or results. Know that reasons don’t count – Les Brown
A lot of people are not living their dreams because they have a lot of reasons. They defeat us from achieving our dreams. Excuses limit us from producing results.
Reasons you don’t invest in yourself
- You resist change
- You don’t want to get out of your comfort zone
- Fear of judgment from other people
- You have self-doubt and limiting beliefs
- You think its too expensive
You will start to see results and returns only when you eliminate these reasons. The power is available to you. When you want something different, you have the power to make a difference. Aim to produce results because they show what you have done. They are the fruits of your efforts and they never lie. They tell the truth about your hard work.
Here are successful ways to Invest that will change your life forever
1. Read for growth
This is on top of the list because it is a cheap investment yet it gives so much value in return. You can create a multimillionaire idea from a book. It is a way to live in someone else’s life, taste people’s experiences, and absorbs new perspectives. A book can have a huge impact on someone else’s life. It can change the way you view the world. An author can dedicate their entire life to writing a book so, don’t underestimate the power of a book.
I didn’t grow up as a reader. It is one of the things I wish I had started early. I dint like reading before, I couldn’t see the value in it. It can be hard for you to start the habit of reading but my advice is to start reading the books you love until you’ll love reading. Here are the best picks from me to start.

4. Connect to people. Choose the right people
Expose yourself to different people. You can grow from people who have different backgrounds, cultures, and different thinking. You can replace old knowledge with new ones, you can find new perspectives with other people with different outlooks in life.
It’s how we grow. Because when we stay with people who have the same beliefs and principles in life, our knowledge doesn’t expand. The same knowledge bounces back.
Surround yourself with inspiring people. Follow people who offer valuable content and learn from them. Learn how to stay away from toxic people and cut toxic relationships from your life. Instead, invest in quality friendships. Keep your relationships alive with valuable people.
Choose the people you surround yourself with. By doing this, you will notice growth. The higher the quality of connections you have with people, the better life you will have.
5. Travel and Live in a foreign country
One of the biggest things you can learn from traveling and living abroad is being less centered. You can explore new cultures and you can discover incredible things. Embrace the culture and allow it to change your identity for good. One of the best values I picked up from living in Japan is discipline, learning, handwork, understanding, and acceptance. The list goes on.
Traveling is such a great investment some people don’t prioritize. It makes us rich in experience, learning, and embracing culture. Living your best life is leaving your house and live in a foreign land.

6. Organize and declutter
Being organized increases efficiency, and it allows us to get things done. It gives clarity to the mind. Do you see value in organization and decluttering your life? I do. It breads productivity. It allows you to create space and set a conducive workplace to keep your tasks moving.
I’m such a big fan of Marie Kondo. Have you ever heard of her? She is the expert in decluttering your house, your things, and your life. She wrote a book called The life-changing magic of Tidying and she has a show on Netflix. She teaches us to only keep the things that spark joy and things you love.
I cannot stress enough how this book changed me. My life has never been better and clearer until I decided to pick the book and read it.

7. Take time to be alone and Indulge in Self-care
Solitude is immensely powerful and a positive thing. It doesn’t equate to loneliness. In fact, it helps you find self-knowledge and boost creativity. Learn to truly experience being alone, indulge in self-care and self-love.
Prioritize yourself and practice self-care then you will have a deeper understanding of who you are and your essentials. Know what matters to you and eliminate non-essentials. Schedule yourself some time alone and reap the joy of solitude.
Here are some ideas to spend time alone:
- Visit cafes and read books and blogs
- Escape from the city and enter nature. Explore your locals
- Take a relaxing bath or massage
- Go for a drive or solo trip
- Go to the movies alone
- Spend time with nature
8. Learn a new language
There are so many proven benefits of learning a new language. It expands the brain and you learn new norms, new cultures, and new structures. You gain friends and it can also help you level up your career. There will be more opportunities for you when you speak different languages.
When I came to Japan, the first thing that I needed was an internet connection. So I went to a store and never have I expected to stay there for the next 4 hours just to set up my internet connection.
No one can speak any English which made the transaction very difficult. we had to use a translator and it took us forever. Since then, I have committed myself to study the language and now I can triumphantly raise my hand and say I can speak Japanese.

Don’t revert back to traps of no motivation and negative thoughts. Take my advice. Stay inspired and motivated.
01. Learn how to say NO
Ever wondered why you feel overwhelmed with stuff and tasks? That’s probably because you say yes to everything and everyone. Saying yes to things you know you don’t want to do breaks you and limits your freedom.
If you always say yes, people take advantage of you and you will be bombarded with tasks and things you don’t even enjoy. It drains your energy and exhausts you. Learn how to say no because you don’t deserve a life that is controlled by other people.
Start thinking about yourself, start doing what you want, and start living for yourself, not for others.
02. Always show up
This is the most valuable advice I can give. Even on your worst days, show up. Even in your lowest motivation, show up. Because if you’re willing to show up, you will see incredible results. Take the opportunity to invest in yourself and always show up. The worst thing you can do in your life is doing nothing and regret it in the end.
03. Consistency is the key
I can’t stress out enough how important this is. Keep doing what you started. Keep creating, keep producing the best work you can and results will show up. Consistency and repetition are the sharpest tools of achievers and self-investors.
04. Find your niche and be the expert
Find something you can be an expert at. Master the details, find your voice, your passion, and crash it. Be a master of it. Buy expertise and you will see massive returns for yourself.
