drinking tea - daily habits to boost your mood

From time to time, your moods can get in the way of your life. It could slow you down or interferes with your ability to function well.

If left unchecked or unattended, it could obstruct you from getting the high level of productivity you’re aiming for. So, what do you do when you find yourself idling or feeling tired and drowsy?

Well, below are ten simple daily habits to boost your mood and keep you going all throughout the day.

This is a collaborative post.

1. Hydrate yourself first thing in the morning

Most of us would probably feel lethargic and don’t have the energy to do our thing. Our bodies would be pretty parched when we wake up.

So, chugging a glass of water or two right after waking up in the morning is the simplest and most practical way to boost and lighten up your mood.

It quickly rehydrates your body after a 6-to-8 hour sleep. It will surely get your body working and restore the alertness you need to jumpstart your day.

If you wanted to give yourself an extra boost, you could drink a supplement powder like Morning Complete (having checked out this Morning Complete review here) to rehydrate and get your body set up for a great day ahead.

2. Take a cold shower

Coldwater has its magical way of waking us and putting that wandering and sluggish self back into place. While this may be mostly frowned upon and disliked by others, this is one of the key ways to boost your mood.

Since the pandemic, most of us work from home. There are times when you’d feel less energetic. In that sense, cold showers help you activate your body – giving you that kick to continue your work.

Cold showers then prevent you from becoming a “groggy zombie”. So, be a brave soul and take that cold shower to sharpen your mood.

3. Drink coffee or tea

If the previous tips are not your thing, probably this will do the trick. I know this is already common but it bears emphasizing. Happiness and positivity are often associated with coffee.

The caffeine that it has stimulates your brain and improves vigilance. So, the moment you feel blue, most especially if it’s Monday, just grab one mug and fill it with the coffee you badly need.

That might save you from breathing fire like a mad dragon.

4. Take enough rest

Perhaps, you are most likely caught up with work or with your studies – that is, if you’re a student. So, sleep might be the last thing on your To-Do List.

But keep this in your mind – without the necessary amount of sleep, you may somehow find it hard to last throughout the day. You might have to drag and force yourself to stay awake as much as possible.

Thus, do yourself a favor and try your best to get enough rest every single night.

5. Listen to an upbeat music

Music is a therapy – oh, no doubt about that! It is universally known for its power to alleviate stress for the time being.

For me, my go-to music would be Fearless Motivation. It’s a haven for motivational songs and it gets me fired up when I’m at my lowest time of the day. I also listen to hip-hop and pop music. A great artist I recently discovered is Lil Durk who by the way is having a concert this year. If you are interested, you can buy lil Durk concert tickets with TicketSmarter.

Should you need some entertainment or wish for some energy-boosting, then get that music blaring. Let the music get that blood pumping in your system.

6. Take a brief walk outside

In the morning or at midday or whenever you find yourself languishing, get those gorgeous legs moving and go for a brief stroll.

You can spare just 15 minutes for this. If you feel a little foggy or if you can’t concentrate, take that chance to take a walk outside.

Fill your lungs with some air and allow your brain to rest for a moment. Walking releases endorphins in your body which helps you feel happier and more energized.

7. Minimize distractions

Before getting started with work, clear your tables and only keep those that are necessary for your work. Turn your phone off when it’s time to work to prevent yourself from checking it out every now and then.

Minimizing distractions helps you to stay focused and gives you the boost you need. You don’t have to waste time locating the things you need or scrolling down on your social media timeline.

Just imagine the things you can accomplish if you have fewer distractions. It would be tremendous!

8. Follow a nighttime routine

daily habits to boost your mood - follow a night time routine

If you already have a nighttime routine you religiously follow, that’s even better. If none, then it’s not yet late for you to build one.

Having a nighttime routine helps you to reduce sleepless nights and prevents you from developing insomnia. As a result, you get to have the perfect time to enjoy sufficient rest.

This will then help you survive the following day at work as this improves your ability to keep calm under pressure.

9. Journal

No matter what mood you are in, daily journaling is integral. It helps you keep track of your emotions and it makes you become more aware of what triggers those emotions or moods you feel at the moment.

What’s more? Journaling is cathartic – it helps you freely vent out those unwanted feelings that boggle you. It is that “friend” you can count on anytime you need one.

Writing what enrages or irritates you detoxifies your mind – all the more reason you should incorporate journaling as part of your daily habits to boost your mood. Check out Promptly Journals for beautifully designed journals.

10. Take your daily dose of Vitamin D

Oh, take a look at that giant fireball glaring in the sky! Beautiful, isn’t it? Well, go on then and go out there. Bask in the sunshine and take your daily dose of vitamin D.

Getting enough sunlight helps in enhancing your mood and jacking up your energy level. It gives you that feeling of optimism and vibrancy which then helps you fight off depression.

Oh, thanks for sharing! Really interesting ideas. I do a few of them, like a cold shower in the morning, coffee to wake me up, and I love going for a walk in the evening to rest. The ideas for the journal and nighttime routine I also find very helpful for boosting the mood 🙂

Great list, I do most of these already, except I don’t drink coffee or tea. I find going to bed and waking up at the same time each day regardless of weekends and holidays, is the best for me. Short 20 to 30 minute walks are awesome!
